Moderators may take action or inaction at their discretion outside of these rules if needed, although we do generally try to stick to them.

Be kind to yourself and other users
Hate speech is prohibited. No racism, homophobia, transphobia, and so on for all intrinsic characteristics. Do not personally attack other users.
This includes ironic self deprecation, transmedicalism advocacy, calling people's "transness" into question, and similar lines of comments.
If you think another user has said something incorrect, reply politely or walk away.

Stay on topic
We're a subreddit intended to help people with HRT and adjacent medical issues. Social posting and non-medical transition questions should go to more generic trans subreddits such as /r/MtF, /r/FtM, /r/AskTransgender and so on. For non-HRT related medical issues you should be talking to a doctor.

Be clear, be accurate

When asking questions, be clear about what the problem you're facing is and provide clarifying information when requested. Post titles should be informative but brief. Ask for help with the root problem rather then what you think the solution might be wherever reasonable (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XY_problem). Confirm answers with multiple people wherever possible, because sometimes people will say dumb stuff and it doesn't get caught in the moment.

When answering questions, stick to established science wherever possible and have sources for your statements. If you can stick to peer reviewed published work that doesn't have major critiques then perfect, if this doesn't exist then use community resources which have stood up to scrutiny. Anecdotes are generally not sufficient.

Keep discussions in public
Do not DM other users. Do not ask other users to DM you. Report and block people who DM you, especially if they are trying to sell you anything.
Keeping discussions in public is the primary tool for avoiding misinformation and scams.

Prohibited/restricted topics
Some topics are prohibited, either due to reddit site wide ToS issues, because they are effectively unsolvable, or they have a tendency to generate high quantities of rule breaking posts.
Some topics are restricted, and posts will be removed unless they are of high quality. You might want to poke a mod before posting to check if this is the case.

THE PROHIBITED TOPICS LIST:

Sourcing for Testosterone (Reddit ToS, https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043513471)

Circumventing the law in your location (Reddit ToS)

Direct advertisements from storefronts or other sellers (Reddit ToS, drama)

Direct transactions between users, including giveaways (Reddit ToS)

Asking for medication advice while under 18 (Reddit ToS), see wiki for more information

Hiding medication/transition from family (no good answer, drama)

Restricted topics:

Advocacy for non-pharmacutical medication (IE, herbals and phytoestrogens)

Discussions around medications only tangentially related to transitioning (Pioglitazone, Semaglutide, and similar)

Requests for participants in research will be removed unless prior moderator authorisation is sought.

Requests for interview from journalists will be removed without prior moderator authorisation, and in the current environment authorisation is unlikely to be given.

Reviews and recommendations of storefronts or suppliers
Second party reviews and recommendations are allowed in moderation. Excessive or unprompted promotion will lead to post removal.
Requests for storefronts or suppliers are also permitted within reason.
Storefronts/suppliers may not self-promote. Paid incentives to promote are prohibited.

Reddit search is pretty terrible, so it's better to use google. You can search only specific sites using Google's advanced search. For example, put
reddit.com/r/TransDIY
in the "site or domain" field to only search this subreddit.

Another more advanced way to search Reddit is using https://camas.unddit.com/

Be very skeptical about things you see posted on reddit. It's very useful as a starting point to find what exactly to research in the first place, but be sure to verify everything, especially if it seems obvious or common knowledge.

### Major Guidelines
#### WPATH Standards of Care
The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care (SOC) (2022, currently version 8 and known as SOC8) are considered by many to be the go-to international guidelines and best practices for trans healthcare.
There is a free download in many languages here:

#### Endocrine Society Clinical Practice Guideline
The Endocrine Society guidelines (2017) are the major consulted international guidelines on transgender hormone therapy:

#### UCSF Guidelines
The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) trans health guidelines (2016) are quality and thorough:

## Crash Course
[Crash course anatomy and physiology](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBGl2BujkPQ&list=PL8dPuuaLjXtOAKed_MxxWBNaPno5h3Zs8) is a YouTube video series covering a college level introduction to human biology.
It's a great way to gain a basic general understanding of the human body, which is a great thing to have for self medicating.
The episodes on the endocrine system and reproductive system are especially relevant.

## Searching Reddit
Reddit search is pretty terrible, so it's better to use google. You can search only specific sites using [Google's advanced search](https://www.google.com/advanced_search). For example, put `reddit.com/r/TransDIY` in the "site or domain" field to only search this subreddit.
Another more advanced way to search Reddit is using https://camas.unddit.com/
Be very skeptical about things you see posted on reddit. It's very useful as a starting point to find what exactly to research in the first place, but be sure to verify everything, *especially* if it seems obvious or common knowledge.

## Body Measurements

This isn't HRT specific, but it might help with dysphoria by allowing you to get an objective idea of your bone sizes compared to the male/female average for your height. Keep in mind that HRT can change your height by a couple inches.

For testosterone and other anabolic steroids. Calculates and plots dose eliminated (not drug levels) based on literature-reported half-lives. It's extremely rough, so take with a large grain of salt.
