Payment Guides[edit | edit source]

Bank Transfer[edit | edit source]

Bank transfers are the most common way of paying suppliers, since they are easy to send and receive. Every day, over 45 million transactions are made through wire transfers.

To send a bank transfer, you will need the following information, and a bank you do business with.

You will need your recipient's:

  1. SWIFT Code, Institution Code and Country, Sort Code, IBAN (replaces account number as well), or ABA number.
  2. Bank account number (if you don't have their IBAN)
  3. Recipient name and address. Once you have these information, you will need to visit your bank and tell them you need to send a wire transfer.

They will need the information you just collected, and possibly more. Once that is done, they will take the money from your account and send it to them through whatever system the banks use.

Bitcoin/Other Crypto[edit | edit source]

Cryptocurrency is more difficult to obtain and send, but they are the gold standard for transactions like this. To send bitcoin, you need the following:

  1. A crypto wallet
  2. Bitcoin to send
  3. An address to send the bitcoin to

To start, you need a bitcoin wallet. I recommend and use the Unstoppable Wallet, since it is open source, secure, and has what you need. Also, unlike many of the other wallets, you actually own the bitcoin you put in. Unstoppable does not need to do KYC (Know-your-customer/client), so you do not need to submit personal information, which you need to do for other "wallets".

Once that is done, you need to buy bitcoin, and send it to your recipient!

To buy crypto, you have many options. Be careful! There are lots of frauds and scams within the Crypto marketplace, since there are no laws protecting you! Examples

Bisq (No KYC)[edit | edit source]

A preferred option is through a platform called Bisq. Most platforms require you undergo a process known as "KYC", which means submitting all sort of ID cards to prove who you are, but Bisq, being a P2P network, does not. This also means that there will not be an age limit to use it, as well. However, this is the harder way. If you want an easier way, see below. To use Bisq, you need to download it from https://bisq.network. If you are on MacOS Latest, you need to then execute the command sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Bisq.app in Terminal to remove it from quarantine.

Once you open Bisq, it will take a while to turn on, since it needs to connect to the Tor network, to ensure anonymity and security of transactions.

Then, follow the Getting Started guide.

An alternative to buying crypto is mining crypto yourself. Mining cryptocurrency yourself takes a lot of time, computing power, and electricity. Currently, the consensus is the low prices won't even cover the wear-and-tear on the GPU. However, you can still use Nicehash to mine crypto easily.

Now, you have the Bitcoin in your wallet. Click "Send" in your wallet, and scan the QR code displayed by the merchant. The payment will then be sent, and will take a while to confirm, depending on your fees settings. Once that is done, your payment would be finished.

Moonpay (KYC Required)[edit | edit source]

Moonpay offers a fast and simple way to buy and sell cryptocurrency with credit card, bank transfers or Apple Pay. Moonpay does not give you a wallet address so you will need to get one yourself prior to buying crypto.

Transak (KYC Required)[edit | edit source]

Transak is a Moonpay alternative that works in a similar way. You can quickly and easily buy crypto with your credit card, SEPA transfer or google pay. Just like Moonpay you will need to get a wallet address prior to buying crypto.

MetaMask (No KYC)[edit | edit source]

Metamask is not an exchange, but a wallet. It's a browser extensions where you can create various wallet addresses for multiple cryptocurrencies. Metamask only supports tokens on the Ethereum blockchain. Through this wallet you can also directly deposit into them using Moonpay, Transak or Wyre. Keep in mind that you will probably need to buy 2-3$ more than you need to cover transaction fees.

Binance (KYC Required)[edit | edit source]

Binance is a crypto exchanges that handle both your wallet addresses and deposits/withdrawals. However they are a bit more complicated to use and require KYC (ID) verification in order to deposit in withdraw money. This can be an annoying and time consuming process.

After getting verified you need to deposit fiat currency into your account using which you can then use to buy crypto. You can follow this guide on how to deposit fiat money into your account.

Shapeshift (No KYC options available)[edit | edit source]

Shapeshift is a system that can connect you to providers through their platform, so you can purchase cryptocurrency. They are community owned and they have providers that do not require KYC.

Find a Bitcoin ATM (KYC depends on the ATM)[edit | edit source]

Another way you can acquire Bitcoin is at a Bitcoin ATM. You can go to a Bitcoin ATM and buy Bitcoin with cash there, directly to your wallet!

Other Methods[edit | edit source]

See this guide here!

Other payment methods[edit | edit source]

Wise (KYC)
Wise, formerly TransferWise, is a service that specializes in international money transfers. Their rates tend to be the best of any international funds transfer provider at the current interbank rates minus a fee of 0.5-0.9%. Amongst other tools, Wise is exceedingly useful for non-SEPA based persons to send and receive payments directly to an IBAN.

Moneygram (KYC)
Moneygram offers global payment options and cryptocurrency services. International funds transfers are offered at a rate approximately 2% worse than the current interbank rate plus a small fixed fee based on how one supplies funds.

PayPal (KYC)
PayPal has higher costs and fees and worse exchange rates than most alternatives, though it can send money internationally. Note that PayPal has a reputation of being less than kind towards many trans persons, notoriously for making it difficult for an established account to change identity information after, for example, a name change. PayPal additionally has notoriety for locking, suspending, and cancelling accounts without notice. PayPal's international funds transfers offer a rate of 4% worse than the current interbank rate and have an additional fixed fee.

Levels of Recommendation and Grading[edit | edit source]

Each supplier page will have an infobox showing the class and level of recommendation. This infobox indicates the level of recommendation and quality of evidence in favor of using this treatment. A legend of what each level of recommendation indicates is located below. Careful! This is not written by a doctor, but by consensus of the members of the DIY community. Levels of recommendation may be out of date!
